Production Manager

Location: Wigan

DESCRIPTION

Foxwood Recruitment are excited to announce that we have teamed up with an industry leading textiles manufacturer to resource a Production Manager for their Wigan site. The successful candidate will lead, manage and coordinate all aspects of the site, reporting directly to the Managing Director to drive towards attaining not only budgetary, output and efficiency targets but a culture of quality and professionalism from their team. What Are The Responsibilities?

Manufacturing

  • Responsible for the cost performance of the manufacturing units: liaising with the MD to set and monitor production and financial targets; monitoring variances and taking the appropriate action to ensure consistent positive variances to strive for greater cost efficiency.
  • Ensure effective production and capacity planning, co-ordinating the production processes to achieve maximum efficiencies and utilisations whilst minimising waste generation.
  • Ensure effective management of the manufacturing units: delegating appropriate duties to the various individuals within your control. Monitor performance on a regular basis and assess on a continual basis the utilisation of all resources, including raw material, labour and capital equipment.
  • Monitor the quality and delivery of all external processes of raw material and finished goods, making recommendations to the MD and adhering to the internal quality system to achieve the required quality of manufactured product.
  • Develop and drive an ethos of continual improvement within the manufacturing units, ensuring strict adherence to safe working practices and striving for industry best standards; including high standards of housekeeping in all areas of the factory and outside grounds.
  • Ensure that all manufacturing follows the standard operating procedures, and that these procedures are continually reviewed and improved.
  • Ensure that all management information reports are generated as required and that performance and production planning forecasts are reviewed regularly with the relevant management and production teams to ensure effective capacity planning and forward production.

 

Product Development

  • Assisting the MD to plan new products’ development and introduction; implementing their manufacture and ensuring production matches agreed product specification.
  • Co-ordinate the launch of new product ranges with the customer services team, ensuring that all resources are available to achieve agreed delivery schedules.
  • Initiate and develop the manufacturing facilities and ensure a continued focus on innovation.

 

Human Resources

  • Liaise with the MD in agreeing required employee manning levels, training needs and industrial relations whilst promoting a harmonious working environment to reduce absenteeism on site.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and all applicable company policies, particularly equal opportunities, disciplinary and grievance procedures, and to ensure the health, safety and security of all personnel either permanently or temporarily on site.
  • Manage and review all appropriate payment incentive schemes within the manufacturing process.

 

What About Qualifications and Experience?

  • 3+ years manufacturing management experience required.
  • Business Management qualification – minimum or equivalent of ILM Level 5.
  • Health & Safety IOSH qualification desirable.
  • Experience of implementing and following Continuous Improvement and Modern Manufacturing Principles.
  • Basic engineering knowledge.
  • Experience making high-impact decisions in fast-paced environment.
  • Experience utilising computer programs and Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to effectively drive results in a unionised environment.
